Come and See...Differently
One of the greatest privileges we have as human beings is to know and connect with our Creator. God made us in His own image and likeness (Gen 1:26), and this allows us to connect with Him in complex, intimate, and deeply personal ways. Because we are His creation, God has made a way for us to be able to reach out to Him and have relationship. But, God has gone even farther than that - He also reaches out to us! This is seen most clearly through God sending His own son - Jesus, to live and walk among us humans during a unique point in history. Now, some 2000 years later, we still make a point of celebrating the story of Jesus’ birth every December.
My hope is that we do not just give lip service to Jesus this Christmas season (or ever!!), but that we take time to renew our connection with Him and continue to get to know Him as our Lord and Saviour.
“see things differently, to act differently, to live differently”
This past Friday I was visiting a church youth group in Southern Saskatchewan. I encouraged the youth to accept Jesus’ invitation to come and see what He is all about and the opportunity that the SOAR SASK program gives unto deepening our relationship with Jesus. When I finished speaking the pastor of the youth then took it a step further and reminded the youth that not only is Jesus constantly inviting them to “come and see,” He will also challenge them to see things differently, to act differently, and to live differently as they come to know Him better. Jesus himself gives a sobering lesson on this in Matthew 7:15-23, in verse 21 He says: “not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven.”
As we enter into this Christmas season let us not just sing the songs, let us not just give people gifts, let us not just go to church because it’s the thing to do. Let us continue to get to know our God who saves us, and instead of Him saying ‘I never knew you’ He will say: ‘well done, my good and faithful servant.’
